Abstract: The box crab Calappa dumortieri Guinot, 1964 (Calappidae), has hitherto been known only from Somalia and the Red Sea (Galil, 1997).We here report the species from the Gulf of Oman. Aspects of its taxonomy and nomenclature are also discussed. Specimens examined are deposited in the Zoology Museum of the University of Tehran [= Teheran] (ZUTC), Khozestan, Iran; the Zoological Museum of Shahid Beheshti University (ZMSB), Tehran, Iran; the Fishery Laboratory of Hormozgan University (FHU), Bandar Abbas, Iran; and the Zoological Reference Collection (ZRC) of the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research, National University of Singapore. Measurements (in millimeters) provided are of the carapace width and length, respectively.
