Singapore Biodiversity Encyclopedia Launch 18 July 2011

The Singapore Biodiversity Encyclopedia Launch happened on the 18th of July 2011.

The launch was held at the University Hall, Vista, a huge meeting room with a great view which the guests enjoyed while mingling and waiting on the arrival of President S R Nathan.

Upon the arrival of President S R Nathan, the book launch commenced officially. President Tan Chorh Chuan started off the programme with an opening speech, giving a brief introduction on what the encyclopedia is all about and giving congratulations to all who have put in effort to compile Singapore’s first biodiversity encyclopedia.

After the speech, the official launch of the encyclopedia began with the invitation of President S R Nathan, Professor Tan Chorh Chuan (President of NUS), Mr Poon Hong Yuen (Chief Executive Officer of National Parks Board), Mr Didier Millet (Managing Director of EDM), Professor Leo Tan (Director of Special Projects Faculty of Science) and Professor Peter Ng (Director of RMBR) to the stage front, where the treasure chest was placed. The encyclopedia was launched with the opening of the treasure chest, revealing the encyclopedia housed in a clam of huge historical value (if you want to know more about the clam, read the encyclopedia!).

Following the launch, Professor Peter Ng gave a more in-depth presentation on what the encyclopedia entails and also highlighted a few interesting things about Singapore’s rich biodiversity.

The donors and contributors were then presented with a complimentary autographed copy from President S R Nathan.

After the launch, guests proceeded down to Nexus for the tea reception. The Nexus was beautifully decorated, not only with flowers, but with the delicious food as well!

Professor Peter Ng also had a mini show-and-tell with the President and various other guests about the vetebra of a Diplodocus.

Guests continued to mingle and take many photographs!
