For the third day, an Australian ornithologist could be seen busy combing through the bird specimens in the collection of the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research. He is Dr. Richard Schodde, who was the founder and a retired staff of the Australian National Wildlife Collection at CSIRO, Australia. He will spend another day examining specimens from the Christmas and Cocos-Keeling Islands, as part of his research that will cumulate into a book on Australian non-songbirds.
According to him, non-songbirds are mainly aquatic, wading, or marine birds. Interestingly, parrots are also non-songbirds! The book will be the second in the Directory of Australian Birds series. The first was published in 1999 on Passerines, or songbirds.
