21 May 2008 – Dr. Tan Swee Hee held a training workshop for 5 secondary school students in preparation for the International Biology Olympiad (IBO). This year, IBO is to be held in Mumbai, India from 13 to 20 July 2008.
The International Biology Olympiad is a competition for secondary school students. Their skills in tackling biological problems, and dealing with biological experiments are tested. Interest in biology, inventiveness, creativity and perseverance are necessary.
In bringing together gifted students, the IBO tries to challenge and stimulate these students to expand their talents and to promote their career as a scientist.
The students were taught the techniques of identifying crabs and gastropods using identification keys, and they were challenged to identify all the 10 specimens of each group down to family.
